The Journey to Leh:
Why take the flight to Leh when the best way of getting there is to take the road from Srinagar? If you insist, you may fly there, but the road is better. You can drive up from Manali over the Rohtang pass or from Srinagar over the Zojila. The latter route is not being used much these days due to problems in the valley. By road you get a real feel of this remote frontier, the heart of the very crossroads of the high mountains.

A relaxed pace helps the senses to absorb the body to adjust and the mind to bear up to the rarefied atmosphere ahead. Take it easy and acclimatize yourself rather than hurrying around the moment you get there. Get used to the place. It is unlike any other on the whole of the earth: lost, remote and forbidding.
