Chorabari (Gandhi Sarovar) A kilometeres trek from Kedarnath, it is a partially frozen lake. Floating ice on the crystal clear waters of the lake is a fascinating view.
Vasuki Tal Situated at a height of 4,150 m the lake is surrounded by high mountains and offers an excellent view of Chaukhamba peaks.
Gaurikund It is the base for a trek to Kedarnath and serves as a roadhead. The village has a temple dedicated to Gauri and hot water springs.
Sonprayag Situated at the confluence of Sone Ganga and Mandakini rivers. The road to Trijuginarayan diverts from here.
Trijuginarayan According to legend, this was the place where Shiva and Parvati’s wedding was solemnised. An eternal flame is alight in front of the temple. This flame is said to have been a witness to the wedding. One can reach the spot by a 12 km drive from Sonprayag.
Guptkashi Famous for the temples of Ardhnarishwar and Vishwanath.
Ukhimath Winter home of the deity at Kedarnath temple and the seat of the Rawal of Kedarnath. Connected by bus services to Rudraprayag and other major centres.
Agastyamuni The temple of sage Agastya is the main attraction here.
Chandrashila The Chandrashila peak provides a rare panoramic view of innumerable snow-clad peaks. The trek from Tungnath passes through forests of rhododendron and alpine meadows.
Deoria Tal At an altitude of 2,440 m the lake is located off the Chopta-Ukhimath road. In the early morning, the snow-capped peaks, including Chaukahamba and Kedarnath are clearly reflected on the lake waters. This lake also provides and excellent venue for angling as well as birdwatching. |
