Hill Stations - Himachal Pradesh - Kasauli
 

About 12 kms from the Shimla-Kalka road is a charming little town called Kasauli.  It is a pleasant alternative to staying in Shimla; it is devoid of its crowds and is still close enough. There are numerous lovely walks around Kasauli and one can enjoy the beauty of the hills and the riot of colour of the wild flowers that grow in profusion along the hill slopes.

Location - Between Chandigarh and Shimla, 12 kms from Shimla-Kalka road at a height of 1927 m
Distance - 300 kms from Delhi
Weather - Summer: 33C-15C  Winter: 8C-0C


GETTING THERE:
By Air: Jagson Airlines flies daily to Shimla. Indian Airlines and Jet Airways have flights to Chandigarh (65 kms).
By Road: Regular local buses and taxis connect Shimla and Chandigarh to Kasauli. It is located on the road from Chandigarh. It is 12 kms from the turn off Dharampur.

By Rail: Himalayan Queen from Delhi to Kalka departs from Delhi at 6.00am and arrives in Kalka at 11.40am. Onward to Kasauli by road.


PLACES TO SEE:

Monkey Point: The 4 kms walk to Monkey Point has great views sans monkeys. It is quite a steep climb to the top but the view of the valley below is spectacular. On a clear day one can even see Chandigarh. The area is owned by the India Air Force, so one has to obtain permission from the local Air station.

Sanawar (6 kms):  Another picturesque hill-town straddling the adjacent hill. The famous Lawrence School, a colonial college is located here.

Dagshai: 19 kms from Kasauli this is another military cantonement and boasts of a famous public school.
