Himachal Pradesh is comprised of the hill kingdoms of Kullu, Kangra, Lahaul, Spiti and Chamba, which amongst them, have scenic beauty unsurpassed elsewhere. The lowlands of the state have enchanting summers, where the high ranges of Dhauladhar mountains prop up the skyline. The snow covered tops create a fine contrast with the pine covered green of the valley. The rich array of wildflowers and the lush alpine pastures provide breathtaking natural beauty to the trekker.

But it is the highlands of Himachal, located in the dizzy heights of the Himalayas, with passes that remain closed for six months of the year, that offer nature at its wildest. Kinnaur, Spiti and Lahaul were until now a forbidden land. The area has recently been opened up to the world and the rugged beauty of these highland regions is now within reach. These valleys encompass glaciers, high ridges, broad valleys and pastures, with a minimum elevation exceeding 3000m. A high altitude cold desert, the region is dotted with famous monasteries, villages like little green oasis in a stark, brown and dry landscape, miles of rolling pastures, 6000 m peaks and swollen rivers, which turn into mere trickles in winter. An uncanny, silent, almost unreal world, this is a lunar landscape, you are in a mountain desert, which is intensely cold and unbearably scorching in turns. The nights are magical and the days pristine blue. Fascinating trekking country, memories of the land remain in the heart, long after leaving the area.
