Destination Guides > Trekking Guide > Grading of Treks |
|
While grading a trek certain factors have to be taken into consideration. These include the length of the trek, the number of river crossings that have to be made, the condition of the trail, the height of the pass crossings, and the number of hours per day that one may have to trek. All these factors vary considerably depending on the time of the year. A trek, which may be graded as a moderate one at a given time, may have become a strenuous trek at a different time of the year. Introductory: The introductory treks normally mean walking for up to six hours a day, and normally do not exceed 3000m in altitude. Moderate: This level of trekking includes stages of up to seven hours a day and may exceed 4000m. Strenuous: Strenuous treks include some stages where one might have to trek for up to ten hours and the altitude may reach 5000m. Technical: These kinds of treks include stages where the altitude may exceed 5000m. There may also be stages where ice axes and crampons may have to be used.. |

Trekking is one of the safest and most relaxing of all outdoor adventure activities. It requires no qualification whatsoever, except the ability to put one foot in front of the other and the stamina to walk for an extended period of time. |
