It is an idyllic world which can make time speed by. Situated on the west coast of India, Goa has both lush green hinterland and wonderful beaches. There is more to Goa than sun, sand, sea and fabulous food. It is quite distinct from the rest of India and is small enough to be grasped completely and explored in its entirety. It is not just the familiar remains of European colonialism or the picture book exotica that makes Goa so wonderful. The prevalence of a Roman Catholic culture, the social and political progressiveness, the easygoing nature of its people, an evolved cuisine, a long coastline with endless beaches and a feeling that the place has been there for a long time - all combine to make Goa such a wonderful holiday destination.

Today, Goa is a curious blend of the Indian and Portuguese. Small taverns, old-fashioned plazas and wayside crosses are found alongside Hindu temples. Then there is the typical cuisine – a blend of Konkan, Portuguese and Bahamini Nawabi, not to forget the truly Goan feni. After a holiday in Goa it is very difficult to utter - Goa Maka ~ Naka go!

For a popular tourist place, Goa is surprisingly free of touts and if you find one, you can be sure it’s an import from some other part of the country.
