Dalhousie, a small hill station in Himachal Pradesh boasts of many shades, paths covered with daisies in summer and soft snow in winter. One can go for long walks through the wooded pine trees or sit at the edge of cool mountain streams enjoying the idyllic atmosphere. The lasting influence of the British can still be seen in the houses and churches. Dalhousie today has a thriving Tibetan community. |

By Road: Regular local buses and taxis connect Dalhousie to Patankot (4 hours), Dharamsala (6 hours) and Chamba (3 hours). PLACES TO SEE: Subash and Gandhi Chowk: The walk around the Moti Tibba joins the two chowks and is a lively place to shop. There are pony rides and a thriving Tibetan market. Panchpula: The walk to this site is excellent. It is where five bridges span a gushing stream. On the way one can stop at ‘Seven Streams’. Jandhrighat Palace: Belongs to the Raja of Chamba and in the summer one can pick strawberries en route. Bakrota Circle: The 5 km walk around the circle gives one a fantastic view of the valley. Kalatope Wildlife Sanctuary: 8.5 kms from Gandhi Chowk, the sanctuary is home to a variety of species including barking deer, black bear and an abundance of birdlife. Dainkund: is the tallest peak around Dalhousie. One can see all the major rivers of the area from the top. PLACES NEARBY: Chamba: Famous for its numerous temples. Khajjiar: Flanked by thick forests and a lake in the center, it is a famous tourist spot. One can take a walk or see the area on horseback. |
