With the onset of summers the mountain meadows in the Himalayas are at their best, but not for long. In a couple of months the passes along the route would close down for the next eight months. Time also to discover the pleasures of walking the lonely trails along the Bugyals, or driving across some of the highest passes in the world.

Journeys could have a profound influence on our lives; they could forever change the way we look at things . That's what David and I realised a few seasons ago when we drove back from Leh, traversing through some of the highest passes in the world and camping along the route.

A few hours out of Leh on the bumpy road – David Josephson, Director of Ha-Retreat in Wellington was wondering if he had done the right thing choosing this path - well it was too late now, for we were over Changlangla at 18,000 feet above sea-level, and the only way to go was down hill!

Four days later, on reaching the Comic Gompa in Spiti, the Tai-Chi master met a young, ten year old Rimpoche at the monastery. Little did he know that a short meeting like that would change his life. A few minutes later, the ex- Professor from the Stanford University had tears in his eyes and he was saying, "Manu, I have got what I wanted in life, I have reached where I wanted to reach – I want nothing more!"

Well, a few miles later, the recently divorced professor got a lot more from the trip! He met this young pretty lady...from...well, to tell you about that I will need David's permission.
