Jamamasjid, Delhi

Bharatpur

For the wildlife enthusiast, this excursion through India’s wildlife sanctuaries is a once in a lifetime experience. The trip starts from Delhi, from where you will be taken to the Corbett National Park, which was the first sanctuary to come under Project Tiger. Although largely nocturnal animals, there are still very good chances to see the majestic tiger in daylight. Corbett Park, situated in the Himalayan foothills, has over 80 of the estimated 4,000 remaining tiger in the world and many other lesser animals. Wildlife viewing is possible here through jeep safari, on elephant back or on foot. You have ample time, whole of two days to roam the jungles of Corbett. After an exciting adventure you head back to Delhi.

The next destination is Agra where you will be taken around the city. A must see is the brilliant Taj Mahal that is wrapped in the historic myth of the Mogul Emperor Shah Jehan’s undying love for his Queen. From here you will drive to the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. You spend the next day at the sanctuary, which is a haven for more than 300 species of birds. There are regular forest trails in this region that can be covered on foot or on cycle.

You will now travel to the picturesque Ranthambhore National Park in Rajasthan. Staying in the majestic former hunting preserve of the Maharajas of Jaipur, the park consists of 160 sq miles of undulating terrain, an old Mogul fortress and a beautiful lake. A three-day stay gives you enough time to wander about the beautiful landscape. You can also visit the Ranthambhore Fort, one of the oldest existing forts in Rajasthan.

Next you drive to the Pink city, Jaipur. The city is best explored on foot and the adventurous visitor willing to go into the inner lanes can discover a whole new world. The bustling bazaars famous for Rajasthani jewellery, fabric and shoes, possess a timeless quality and are surely a treasure trove for the shoppers. The palaces and forts are worth a visit. The next day you fly back to Delhi with precious memories that you will treasure forever.
